SDU and OUH will be joined under the same roof within a few years, and there is already a strong focus on bringing excellent research and treatment even closer together for the benefit of patients and society.
In this respect, one initiative is the appointment of SDU and OUH’s flagship centres, which bring researchers together in exciting interdisciplinary and translational research collaborations across the two organisations.
In October 2023, STEMBRACE was appointed SDU and OUH’s first flagship centre and was awarded DKK 14 million to research how stem cells can be used to rebuild damaged organs.
Finding the next flagship centre
Now the process of finding the next SDU-OUH flagship centre begins.
The process leading up to the appointment at the end of 2024 is:
Phase 1 – Research groups may submit initial expressions of interest to ouh.forskning@rsyd.dk. The deadline for submission is May 7th.
The expressions of interest are assessed by three assessors from SDU’s RI Council, two assessors from OUH’s Research Council and one patient. Up to five projects will be selected for phase 2.
Phase 2 – In this phase, the selected projects submit a full application, which subsequently undergoes external reviews by international evaluators. The deadline for this application is 15 September. Up to three projects will then proceed to phase 3.
Phase 3 – In December 2024, the selected projects will deliver a presentation before a panel consisting of SDU’s deans and two directors from OUH. The panel assesses and selects SDU-OUH’s next flagship centre, which will be awarded DKK 14 million over a period of five years.
The criteria and method for selection in the phases of the process, as well as a description of the overall process, are available here
